The North Country Trail:

The North County Trail runs behind Little Bear East and is available to walk/hike even during the winter. Thank the DDA and Scott Marshall for their improvements building a trail that goes all the way around the little pond behind the new Sports Park. You can find it behind the Little Bear East ball fields. There are stretching/exercise stops with instructions, and it's a very pleasant walking and viewing experience with a variety of flora and fauna. The birds would appreciate a handful of seed and if you come in the office, our office staff will happily share the stash for the birds we are trying to attract out front as well! Parking is available, dogs on leash are welcome and there are doggy poo bags available to clean up after your pawsome friend if the urge hits along the trail. You can contact the Mackinac County Animal Shelter nearby (980 Cheeseman Road/ 906-643-7646) and make arrangements to take a furry pal along with you on your hike. They are open from 10AM to 2PM and closed on holidays. Let us know what you think!
