Hiking Club

Event Date:
Saturday, January 15, 2022 - 2:00pm

This Saturday's hike is going to be a new one for the Recreation Department! We are going to try out part of the Search Bay trail system (used in the winter for hiking and cross country skiing) out in Hessel. It is located right off of M-134 (drive slowly down Search Bay Rd., aka Federal Forest Road 3436, as it is not always plowed to perfection) and parking is just after the pond on the left. I'll be sure to get there early in case anyone is unsure as to where to park in the snow.

Please make sure to dress warmly and wear good winter/hiking boots! We will not be using our snowshoes because the snow is pretty well packed down in that area and there's a lot of shrubbery and fallen sticks along the trail that we don't want to rip up/stumble over. We will be providing trekking poles, however, and have the option of just walking along the forest-lined road all the way down and back, or heading into the woods doing section C to D. Either way will be very pretty and will take us between an hour and an hour and a half depending on walking speed.
