City of St. Ignace Police Departmental Personnel

  Police Chief: Tony Brown              stignacepd@lighthouse.net

Chief Brown has been the Chief of Police since February 2019.  Since becoming Chief, he has upgraded several areas in the department including department policy and procedure, uniforms and department training.  He acquired an Associates degree in Criminal Justice at KVCC and has been in law enforcement for over 20 years. Chief Brown currently resides in St. Ignace. His wife along with their 3 children will join him after the current school year. Like his predecessor, he has an open-door policy and always welcomes feedback from citizens.

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice from Lake Superior State University, Sgt. Allen Mitchell made it his goal to eventually return to his hometown to work and raise a family. He worked for the Mackinaw City Police Department for two years before joining the St. Ignace Police force in 2006. He now lives in the same neighborhood he grew up in with his wife and daughter. Sgt. Mitchell currently heads the department as the evidence/crime scene technician along with running the Car Seat Program.

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Richard Cullen’s path to becoming a police officer began in the U.S. Coast Guard. After being stationed on the Biscayne Bay in St. Ignace and Cape May, New Jersey, Mr. Cullen joined the Sault Tribe Police force as an officer in 1997, working there for seven years before joining the St. Ignace department in 2008. Officer Cullen is the department’s Taser Instructor. Officer Cullen resides in the city of St. Ignace with his wife Mary and his four daughters, Liberty, Cadence, Addison and Zoey.  Officer Cullen returned to the department February 2014 after a 12 month deployment to Afgahanistan where he was a Training Coordinator for the Department of Defense.  He provided training in firearms, special weapons, tactics, convoy operations, high risk motorcade operations and PSD to Private Military Companies, the United States, Afghan and Foreign Military forces in Kabul, Afghanistan.

 

 

 

Officer Darrin Wilcox            sipddw@lighthouse.net

Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Officer Wilcox started his law enforcement career at his college alma mater The University of Tennessee-Knoxville Police Department.  In 2009, he moved with his wife to the Nashville, Tennessee area and began working for the Murfreesboro Police Department.  He spent the last five years of his eight years there as a Motor Officer in the traffic division, where he attained certification as a Traffic Crash Reconstructionist.  Officer Wilcox is married to Melissa and together they have two young children.  They also have two older children and two grandchildren who still reside in Murfreesboro.  Melissa is originally from Pontiac, Michigan and her family resides in the Sault Ste. Marie area.  Moving closer to Melissa's family is what brought them to the area.  Officer Wilcox holds a Masters degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University and is currently finishing his PhD in Public Policy and Administration through Walden University.  Prior to moving to the UP, he was an adjunct faculty member in the Criminal Justice department at Motlow State Community College in Smyrna, Tennessee for 4 years.

 

Clerk Kelly Simmons                   sipdclerk@lighthouse.net

After moving to St. Ignace in 1990, Mrs. Simmons comes to the department holding a business degree from Mott Community College in Flint, MI.  She and her husband Grant have raised two boys in St. Ignace.   Kelly joined the department in 2011 and is responsible for the clerical duties in the department and became a certified Mackinac County Car Seat Technician in 2012. She enjoys her family time and her four legged fur babies.

Officer Dean was raised in St. Ignace and graduated from LaSalle High School.  Officer Dean comes from a family of Law Enforcement and he recently graduated from Lake Superior State University with a degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement.  Officer Dean started with the Mackinaw City Police Department prior to joining the City of St. Ignace Police Department in 2018.  He enjoys the hunting, fishing and all outdoor activities.

Officer Paul rejoined the City of St. Ignace Police Department in April 2019.  He first joined the department in August 2017, and then left the department to further his education with the DNR.  After working in Mackinaw City as a part time partol officer, he accepted a full time position with St. Ignace.
